Ohio challenges Michigan in unclaimed funds search competition

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WLIO) — As the Ohio State Buckeyes prepare for The Game against Michigan, there’s another friendly competition between the states that could put money in your pocket.

During November, the Ohio Division of Unclaimed Funds is challenging Michigan to see which state can generate the most searches for unclaimed money. While the winning state will earn bragging rights, individuals may be the real winners by discovering money they didn’t know they had.

“It is very easy for people to search and claim their money on our website. It's three easy steps. First, you're just searching your name, the second, you're reviewing your documents that are required, and then three, send it to us. Easy peasy. So this challenge doesn't involve you doing an ice bucket. It doesn't involve you playing football. It involves you telling your friends, your circle, all about unclaimed funds and make sure they've looked and claimed their money,” said Susie Wagner, outreach supervisor for the Ohio Division of Unclaimed Funds.

For those unsure about how to search for unclaimed funds, how-to videos are available on the website to guide users through the process. To get started, visit www.unclaimedfunds.ohio.gov
