LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) – The Allen County Democratic Party hosted an LGBTQ+ event Saturday afternoon at Faurot Park.
The Pride Picnic featured food, games, and speakers who shared personal stories. Organizers said the goal was to create a safe, welcoming space, especially at a time when members of the LGBTQ+ community are feeling under attack.
“I want people to understand that, the LGBTQ-plus community is no different than any other subgroup in the United States. You know, we are doctors, neighbors, you know, other people in the community. We just want to be able to exist freely and sa safely, without complication, just like anyone else,” said Dylan Gross, organizer of the Pride Picnic.
The Allen County Democrats said they hope to host similar events in the future to build support for the LGBTQ+ community in the area.
