LIMA, OH (WLIO) – The Allen County Democrats hosted a Donuts with Dems event Saturday morning, featuring a presentation from a local nonprofit working to combat child hunger.

Spread the Love, a grassroots organization that delivers peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to neighborhoods where children are at risk of going hungry, shared its mission and rapid progress since launching earlier this year.

Lima area nonprofit “Spread the Love” expands citywide to fight child hunger

“We've already expanded very quickly. We started in February with just the sixth ward of Lima because we knew we had to start very slowly with just a few volunteers and a few donations. After we started serving the sixth ward of Lima, we moved to the fifth ward of Lima very quickly. Then, the demand was so large that we expanded to the entire city of Lima, so now we have routes in every area of the city every week,” says Laurie Camper, Program Director, “Spread the Love.”

Camper emphasized that the organization’s continued success depends on community involvement. Those interested in donating or volunteering can learn more at www.spreadthelove-pbj.com.
