SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP, ALLEN CO., Ohio (WLIO) – The S.O.S. Project hit the road Saturday to raise money in support of local veterans.
The group hosted its annual Poker Run at Schoony’s Pub in Shawnee Township, where dozens of motorcyclists took off on a nearly 70-mile road trip through the region. The event is one of many ways the S.O.S. Project works to serve men and women who have served in the military. Founded 13 years ago, the organization provides food and utility assistance to veterans, as well as support for agencies that offer service dogs.

“There's never enough support for these guys. It’s hard through the government process and stuff to get good assistance at times. So, if we can just fill in a few blanks, it's great. They signed up for the ultimate sacrifice and to be able to do something for them. And we've got veterans, like my son, that are on our committee, and it's important to us to give back,” said Harold Neal, president of the S.O.S. Project.
In addition to the Poker Run, the group also hosts a Fall Fest in September at Schoony’s Pub to raise more funds for veterans in need.
