LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — The Lima Public Library is encouraging children and teens to spend part of their summer reading through its annual Summer Reading Program.
This year's theme, “Unearth a Story,” officially launched with a kickoff event featuring dinosaur-themed activities designed to engage families and promote literacy during the summer months.
Participants can pick up books to read throughout the program and submit slips for each completed book for a chance to win prizes. Library officials say the program is designed to keep young readers engaged while school is out and to make reading a fun summer activity. The dinosaur theme also ties into a broader focus on history, connecting with both America’s upcoming 250th anniversary and the library’s 150th anniversary celebration.
“So, it's dinosaurs, history, things like that, which goes well with our uh America's 250th anniversary and the library's 150th anniversary. So, we have a ton of fun activities and lots of fun prizes, grand prizes that the kids can try to win with reading and doing fun activities for the summer,” said Stephanie James, head of youth services at the Lima Public Library.
The Summer Reading Program is one of several activities being offered by Allen County library branches this summer. Residents can find a complete calendar of events at the library’s website.
