LIMA, Ohio (WLIO)- At the Johnny Appleseed Park District, even the alphabet comes to life in the great outdoors.
Five- and six-year-olds are spending the week exploring the hidden ABCs of nature. They are searching for letters hidden in plain sight, like a "Y" formed by tree branches or a leaf shaped like the letter "C."
"I really think it's great to talk about letters and how a lot of things that we use are from nature. You can find all these letters in nature," said Doreen Martin, a naturalist for the Johnny Appleseed Park District. "So they're learning about nature, plus they're keeping with their letters, which goes along with their language arts skills."
Campers will also learn about nature photography. Cameras are provided as they hike the trails, documenting what they find and creating their own ABC books.
