AMPHITHEATER PROGRAM
On Sat., Aug. 3, at 7:00 p.m., The Johnny Appleseed Metropolitan Park District will host CRYING’ OUT LOUD at the OTTAWA METRO PARK – AMPHITHEATER (2632 Ada Rd., Lima, OH).
Come join us as we rock out with Crying’ Out Loud as we are taken back to those hits we remember from the 70’, 80’s, & 90’s!
NATIONAL NIGHT OUT
On Tues., Aug. 6, from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m., The Johnny Appleseed Metropolitan Park District will help celebrate NATIONAL NIGHT OUT at HERITAGE PARK (2092 Reed Rd., Lima, OH) along with other local communities.
Come join family and friends at your community’s National Night Out! The Park hosts the Shawnee community at Heritage Park and will have a presence around the county, including Bluffton, Allen Co. Fairgrounds, Elida and more! There will be food, activities for kids and displays for your local First Responders.
HEALTH THROUGH NATURE
On Thurs., Aug. 8, at 5:30 p.m., The Johnny Appleseed Metropolitan Park District will hold HEALTH THROUGH NATURE at HERITAGE PARK – LIONS SHELTER (1772 Reed Rd., Lima, OH).
Although modern technologies are making our life easier, more and more people are experiencing a sense of unease and anxiety. Scientists are finding that a connection to the natural world is crucial for our health and well-being. Join a naturalist on the second Thursday evening of each month this summer to reap the health benefits of being in nature. PEDAL THE PARKS!
On Fri., Aug. 9, at 10:00 a.m., The Johnny Appleseed Metropolitan Park District will gather for PEDAL THE PARKS! at the ROBERT K. ANTIBUS TRAIL ACCESS PARKING AREA (12395 Zion Church Rd, Spencerville, OH).
Put your pedals through their spin cycle and join park staff to explore the trails on two wheels! Enjoy an interpretive bike tour and “wheel”-derness ride as we leisurely travel along the Miami and Erie Canal Towpath Trail. Total distance traveled will be 10-12 miles. Dress for the weather and bring a water bottle. Helmets are required. Meet at the Robert K. Antibus Trail Access parking area. PERSEID METEOR SHOWER
On Sat., Aug. 10, at 9:00 p.m., The Johnny Appleseed Metropolitan Park District invites you to gather to view the PERSEID METEOR SHOWER at KENDRICK WOODS – MAPLE SHELTER ( 971 N. Defiance Trail, Spencerville, OH).
The Lima Astronomical Society will provide telescopes to watch the annual meteor shower and view other celestial objects in one of the darkest places in the county! Bring bug spray, lawn chairs/ground blankets, and a light jacket. This event is dependent on weather and cloud cover and often continues late into the night, stay as long as you like! REPTILE ROUNDUP!
On Sat., Aug. 10 at 11:00 a.m., The Johnny Appleseed Metropolitan Park District will offer REPTILE ROUNDUP! at the MCELROY ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION CENTER (2355 Ada Rd., Lima, OH).
Calling all reptile wranglers! Come out to learn the critter characteristics that make our resident reptiles at the park district unique. Try your hand at some turtle trivia, make a critter craft, and discover why snakes are scent-sational! JOGGING WITH JOHNNY
On Mon., Aug. 12, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., The Johnny Appleseed Metropolitan Park District will offer JOGGING WITH JOHNNY at the OTTAWA METRO PARK – WYANDOT SHELTER (2632 Ada Rd., Lima, OH).
Turn up the heat on your fitness routine and enjoy some fun in the sun with your Johnny Appleseed accountabili-buddy, Naturalist Lindsey! Join us for a warm-up walk and a few easy laps around Ottawa Metro Park. All ages and abilities are welcome in their fitness journey, whether you consider yourself a seed, a sapling, or cider! Choose a pace that is comfortable for you. Dress for the weather and come out rain or shine! Meet at the Wyandot Shelter. MONTHLY MOTHING
On Mon., Aug. 12, at 8:30 p.m., The Johnny Appleseed Metropolitan Park District will offer MONTHLY MOTHING at the MCELROY ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION CENTER at (2355 Ada Rd., Lima, OH).
Every second Monday from May to September, a Naturalist will set up the equipment to sample what moths are on the wing in the Teddy Bear Park behind the M.E.E.C. Each month should bring a suite of new moths as different species emerge at different time of the year. This event starts at sunset each month.
