DELPHOS, OHIO  (WLIO) - Delphos St. John’s welcomes a familiar face back to their church for the Mass of Thanksgiving.

Bishop Walsh returns to Delphos St. John's for the Mass of Thanksgiving

Bishop Dennis Walsh returned to give the message for the mass Saturday afternoon. In September, the former pastor at Delphos, Landeck, and Spencerville parishes was named the Bishop of the Davenport Diocese, and only the 10th person to serve in that role in that Diocese’s history. Bishop Walsh says it has been a busy couple of months since he left the area. After attending a required retreat, he was off to Rome for schooling for new bishops, and then two days after returning to the states, he was ordained a bishop. He says he will be ready for when things slow down but is glad to spend time this weekend with some familiar faces.

“It’s a Mass of Thanksgiving, and I just want to express my gratitude to the Lord for having called me to this ministry of being bishop. But it’s also my gratitude to the people of Delphos for their extraordinary support for me as their pastor for the last 9–10 years. I have been following Saint John’s since I left. I left about the beginning of September. September 5th, I think, was my last day here in the parish as pastor. But I have been checking in occasionally. I have been following the situation with the fire and watching all the news on that. Watching the festival and watching the Bluejays and their run in the state tournaments. You spend 9–10 years as pastor; it’s hard to just walk away,” says Bishop Dennis Walsh.

Bishop Walsh also attended masses in Landeck and Spencerville, where he also served as pastor.
