Buckeye Health Plan brought their Operation Feed the Hungry to Lima this year with 200 hams and 50 turkeys to be distributed to those in need in the Lima community. Overall, 46 hundred hams and turkeys will be donated by Buckeye Health Plan around the state this year.

This is the first year that Operation Feed the Hungry has been brought to Lima, and those with Buckeye Health Plan say that giving away the food fell in line with what they do.

"Buckeye's vision is to transform the health of the community one person at a time, and being able to provide hams and turkeys to these agencies, so they can provide them to the clients, helps fulfill that vision," said Mike Hibbard, Community Relations Rep. for Buckeye Health Plan.

The area agencies themselves say that this donation is perfect for this time of year.

"Our agency is able to provide 50 hams and turkeys to the families that we serve, and seven other agencies also be receiving the food, so this will make a big impact in our community," said Lauren Link, Planning and Development Director for West Ohio CAP. "I think it’ll definitely be a great surprise for people for the holidays."

The area agencies that received the donations were:

  • Allen County Childrens Services
  • Area Agency on Aging
  • Bradfield Community Center
  • Family Promise
  • In Faith Ministries
  • Our Daily Bread Soup Kitchen
  • The Salvation Army
  • West Ohio CAP
