Christmas decorations will be going up soon, and there are tips to make sure your home is safe.
Fire inspector, Warren Pughsley says a lot of people do not understand how important it is to be safe when putting up Christmas lights and trees. He says cords should never hang over doors, under carpets or drape over couches or other things because sometimes lights can have pinched wires or they may get too hot and cause fires. He also says one of the main things that causes tree fires is when people do not water their trees. He says artificial trees are usually sprayed with fire retardant but real trees need water everyday.
Inspector Pughsley also recommends that if you are planning to use a power strip to plug in many things at one time, make sure to use a surge protector.
