City of Lima Utilities Department starting work on indoor basement water meters

The City of Lima Utilities Department is in the midst of a major meter change of their own.

The department started earlier this year in the switchover of 28,000 water meters to smart meters. They are now starting to work on the 10,000 indoor basement meters. To do the work they will need the assistance of the homeowner. The city will be mailing out information to those customers who will need to make an appointment.

"They're going to ask you to give the account number which you can find on your bill but if you can't find that just give them your address, that's all you would need to do and they will schedule an appointment to come into your house and change the meter. They'll do it at your convenience, hopefully, it can be done during the day but if it needs to be done at evening hours they will schedule those times as well to come in the evenings," explained Mike Caprella, Lima Utilities Director.

The city has hired a sub-contractor, Utility Metering Services, to complete the project.
