COLUMBUS, Ohio (WLIO) — All of Ohio’s top statewide offices will be on the ballot this year, but first voters must decide several contested primary races in May.

Republicans and Democrats will make key decisions in the May 5 primary election to determine who will represent their parties in the November general election.

In the governor’s race, Republican voters will choose among three tickets led by business leaders Vivek Ramaswamy, Heather Hill and Casey Putsch. The Republican nominee will face former Ohio Department of Health Director Amy Acton, a Democrat, and Libertarian candidate Don Kissick in November.

For attorney general, Democrats Elliot Forhan and John Kulewicz are seeking their party’s nomination to challenge current Ohio Auditor Keith Faber in the general election.

Both parties also have contested primaries in the secretary of state’s race. Democrats will choose between Dr. Bryan Hambley and state Rep. Allison Russo. Republicans will decide between current Ohio Treasurer Robert Sprague and retired Air Force Lt. Col. Marcell Strbich. The winners will face Libertarian candidate Tom Pruss in November.

In the race for treasurer of state, Republicans will select either former state Rep. Jay Edwards or current state Sen. Kristina Roegner to run against Democrat Seth Walsh, a Cincinnati councilman, in the general election.

Four Republicans are competing in the primary for a seat on the Ohio Supreme Court. GOP voters will choose among Andrew King, Jill Lanzinger, Ronald Lewis and Colleen O’Donnell. The Republican nominee will face current Justice Jennifer Brunner in November.

The deadline to register to vote for the May 5 primary is April 6. Early voting begins April 7.
