The aftermath of the mass shooting in Parkland, Florida, has many politicians vocalizing their opinions on gun control.
Governor John Kasich spoke on this topic, Sunday, during a CNN interview. Kasich says he will support new gun restrictions such as universal background checks and perhaps a ban on the sale of some semi-automatic assault rifles.
"Talking to a friend of mine this morning, he's a big gun collector, I said if all of a sudden if you couldn't buy an AR-15, what would you lose? Would you feel as though your second amendment rights were eroded because you couldn't buy a god darn AR-15? These are things that have to be looked at and action has to happen before, and look, you're never gonna fix all of this, but common law gun laws make sense," said Kasich.
Kasich adds the greatest place to initiate change is at the local and state levels. State lawmakers, county commissioners, and city council members are easier to speak with and are geared toward making local change.
