ALLEN COUNTY, OH (WLIO) - The colors they wear can tell if they are poisonous or not to their predators.

The Johnny Appleseed Metropolitan Park District is teaching youngsters the importance of watching for colors in nature. Color Crazy is this week's day camp at McLean Teddy Bear Park. The kids were learning that you can tell the difference between the male and female of certain species, along with whether an animal is dangerous or not, just by their color.

"Some reasons why animals might be brightly colored like maybe they're poisonous, or maybe they're venomous, or maybe they're trying to attract a mate. That's what we're talking about today. Tomorrow is all about camouflage coloration. So why animals are brown or maybe why they have stripes or spots?" explained Marie Walton, a naturalist with Johnny Appleseed Metropolitan Park District.
