LIMA, OH (WLIO) - The Lima chapter of Altrusa International brought people together for Derby Day on Saturday.
For the second year, Altrusa has hosted a Kentucky Derby fundraiser. The night included dinner and a mint julep, horse racing games, raffles, and an auction. Attendees were dressed to impress with their most colorful, festive clothes and big hats. The event is about both providing the community with a fun place to watch the races and raising money to continue their positive programs in the area.
"We just thought it would be something different in Lima for people to come out, dress up, wear their fascinators their hats, and enjoy themselves and watch the races," said Melina Robinson, one of the co-chairs of the event.
"We are also involved with the Lima City Schools vending book project; we help with Crossroads Crisis Center Adopt-a-Family; we also support the Samaritan House wishlist; and we've taken cookies to the first responders," added Linda Washington, co-chair and vice president of Altrusa.
If you're interested in giving back to the community, Altrusa is currently looking for new members.
