LIMA, OHIO (WLIO) - A Lima man facing charges for a 2022 murder pleads guilty to a lesser charge.
A week before he was set to go to trial, 20-year-old Takal Austin pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and tampering with evidence. With the deal, the murder charges, one of which had gang activity specification attached to it, were dropped. They also agreed to a total sentence of 17 to 22 ½ years in prison for both charges. Austin will not be formally charged until next week, so the family of the victim, 22-year-old Koby Bryant, can be in the courtroom.
On December 29th, 2022, Lima Police officers found Bryant dead with multiple gunshot wounds at a home in the 600 block of East 4th Street. Through their investigation, detectives identified Austin as the shooter and issued a warrant for his arrest, and he was caught nearly a week and a half after the shooting.
