The Lima Police Department wants to remind residents that there are still rules in place when it comes to a new fireworks law.
Ohio's new fireworks law goes into effect in July 2022 and allows Ohioans to legally discharge fireworks on certain holidays.
With the 4th of July upon the horizon, the new law allows residents to set off fireworks from July 3rd through the 5th, but only during the designated time of 4 PM - 11 PM.
"From 4 P.M. to 11 P.M., so there are even designated times during those days that you can set off fireworks," said Shane Huber, Lima Police Sergeant. "If you light fireworks off outside of those designated times it still falls under misdemeanor law, so yeah, do it when you are designated to under the new law."
Ohioans can legally discharge 1.4G consumer fireworks during specified holidays.
