July 5, 2024, Press Release from the YMCA of Greater Dayton: Minster, OH – 07/05/2024 – A groundbreaking ceremony will take place on July 22nd at 8:30 a.m. for the $3.6 million expansion project at the Grand Lake Health/Premier Health YMCA (4075 Wuebker Rd, Minster, OH 45865). Once completed, the sports complex will provide a second full-sized gym, an additional basketball court, 2 volleyball courts, and 3 pickleball courts. The gymnasium will have multipurpose surfacing to better accommodate indoor basketball, soccer, and other sports. In addition to the sports complex, a new, state-of-the-art fitness center will be constructed to better serve members of the community.

COLUMBUS, OH (NATIONWIDE CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL) - Playing sports can be a game changer for kids—with benefits to their physical, mental, and emotional health that can last a lifetime. But about seventy percent of kids quit playing by the age of thirteen, often due to overscheduling, excessive training or pressure to perform. A new national survey finds most parents have their kids in sports for all the right reasons, but experts at the kids mental health foundation say consistent communication with kids is critical to ensure athletic play remains a positive force in their lives.

May is National Tennis Month, and one Lima organization is giving area tennis enthusiasts an opportunity to learn more about the sport! The Lima Area Tennis Association, or LATA, hosted a "Tennis 101" session for adults Monday evening at the Collett Street Recreation Area. A variety of beginner, intermediate, and advanced tennis players laced up their sneakers, grabbed their rackets, and received fun instructional training on tennis maneuvers and motions. Even if you are not a pro on the court, LATA officials say the goal is to simply have fun and engage in something healthy for the body.

At the Vine Street Soccer Fields, dozens of potential future soccer stars were hard at work mastering the fundamentals and basic techniques of traveling, stopping, and maneuvering the ball with the proper movements. For the second day of camp on Wednesday, kids will focus on dribbling and shooting the ball. While the camp does emphasize and strengthen the physical skills related to the game of soccer, it also solidifies the social skills for the game of life.
