The Lima Area Tennis Association hosts a "Tennis 101" in honor of National Tennis Month

LIMA, OH (WLIO) - May is National Tennis Month, and one Lima organization is giving area tennis enthusiasts an opportunity to learn more about the sport!

The Lima Area Tennis Association, or LATA, hosted a "Tennis 101" session for adults Monday evening at the Collett Street Recreation Area. A variety of beginner, intermediate, and advanced tennis players laced up their sneakers, grabbed their rackets, and received fun instructional training on tennis maneuvers and motions. Even if you are not a pro on the court, LATA officials say the goal is to simply have fun and engage in something healthy for the body.

"Playing tennis is just very good for the body. You know, a lot of people who live longer, they say, you know, they live longer because they're playing tennis. It's just really fun because it's really good for exercise, and you don't even notice. You know, so when you are out there on the court, you know, you are running around and chasing the ball, but you're being so competitive just having fun that you don't realize how active you're being... and so, you know obviously, we want to be very supportive and letting people come out here and be active, and so, giving them another opportunity to be active and not even realize how active they're being is, you know, awesome," says Jacob Ramirez, Board Member, Lima Area Tennis Association.
