Local Organizations Host Autism Resource Fair

Some organizations in the community teamed up to offer a free Autism Resource Fair. The fair was for families and caregivers who work closely with individuals affected by autism spectrum disorders. Area service providers had tables set up to let community members know what resources are out there. They had an area where kids were able to take part in crafts and a building block social skills activity.

"A lot of families struggle when they have a student on the spectrum because there tends to be a lot of challenging behavior and they sometimes have special needs in that regard, so we just to make sure they're aware of all of the supports that are out there because there definitely are things that can make life easier for the families," said Kim Nellis, Director of Special Education at Allen county Educational Services Center.

The first sixty families to attend the event also received a free autism tote bag. The event was sponsored Allen County Educational Services Center, Parent Mentor Program and the West Central Ohio Autism Community.
