Members of Marathon Pipe Line LLC talked about the project on February 1st with Your Hometown Stations.
The company is going to build a 50 mile pipeline from Harpster, Ohio in Southern Wyandot County, where Marathon Pipe Line has a pumping facility, heading west to their Lima facility. That construction is part of a half a billion dollar investment the company is putting into their pipeline system that would allow them to pump light hydrocarbon liquids and low octane natural gasoline from the Utica Shale Fields to refineries and storage facilities around Northwest Ohio and in the Midwest. The company has already secured rights to the land that the pipeline will be constructed on, and about 80% of the project will run along an existing pipeline they own. After it's complete, the Marathon Pipe Line says the new line will increase the speed and safety of the materials they are handling.
The work on clearing the land where the pipeline will go started on January 27th. They are hoping to complete all 50 miles of the project by May, with the pipeline operational by July. The pipeline will be operated out of the Marathon Operational Center in our area. During the height of construction, there will be 500 contractors working on installing the pipeline.
