MINSTER, OHIO (WLIO) — Minster senior Annie Hemmelgarn doesn't shy away from a challenge. The Wildcat is a state champion in cross country and track and field and a state semifinalist in girls basketball.

Her hard work doesn't stop there, Hemmelgarn is a top student at Minster with a 4.0 GPA.

"Annie is very well-liked by her peers and her classmates and her teammates. She's very easy to root for and she's a young lady that is well respected when she walks down the hallway," said Minster girls basketball head coach Mike Wiss.

From cross country to basketball and track and field, Minster senior Annie Hemmelgarn brings the same passion and dedication to every sport.

"It's definitely taught me to go through adversity and to work hard no matter what, because you're going to lose games, you're going to win games, you're going to get injured. And it just taught me that as I grow up and when I get into the real world, that you're going to have to fight through those every day and I'm really glad I got to learn that through athletics, especially here at Minster," said Minster senior Annie Hemmelgarn.

"I think Annie bleeds orange and black. Annie brings the best out in others. The best players are the ones that make other people around them better, and I think that's what Annie does," said Wiss.

And her hard work doesn't stop there, Annie is one of the top students at Minster, sporting a 4.0 GPA.

"I've seen her develop her grit over the years. She does not shy away from a challenge. She really digs in. I've just told her the other day, listening to her explain one of my harder physiology questions to a classmate, it was like listening to an upper-level college student explain physiology," said Minster science teacher Marianne Bruns. "She just loves a challenge, and you see that on the court, and you also see it in the classroom."

After high school, Annie has goals of attending Miami University to major in kinesiology with hopes of working in either occupational or physical therapy.

"My sophomore into junior year I tore my ACL and I learned all about the medical field and physical therapy and that stuff and I kind of fell in love with it and there'd be nothing better than to help people like what happened to me and be there for them as the people were there for me," said Hemmelgarn.

After years of hard work and memories made at Minster, Annie Hemmelgarn says it's the moments and the people that have left the biggest impact.

"I think I'm going to take away to not take any moment for granted and to make the best relationships you can because there's some really great people here in Minster and I'm grateful for every single moment I got to spend here and I wish I could start it all over," said Hemmelgarn.

Congratulations to Annie Hemmelgarn — our newest McDonald's Scholar Athlete of the Week.
