St. John's punches ticket to state on busy Regional day of baseball

LIMA (WLIO) — One local team is headed to the state tournament while several others saw their postseason runs come to an end during a busy day of OHSAA regional action.
In Division VII baseball, Delphos St. John's secured a trip to the state semifinals with a 3-0 victory over Newton. The Blue Jays are headed to the Final Four for just the second time in program history, with their only previous appearance coming in 2011.
Leipsic also kept its season alive in Division VII, defeating New Riegel 6-3 in a regional semifinal. The Vikings will now face Montpelier in the regional championship Thursday at 5 p.m. at Carter Park in Bowling Green after Montpelier eliminated McComb by a 4-1 final.
In Division V softball, Coldwater's season ended with a 4-2 loss to Amanda Clearcreek. The Cavaliers close the year with a 22-6 record. Liberty-Benton advanced with a 3-1 win over Fairview and will meet Amanda Clearcreek in Thursday's regional final at Elida.
Versailles also saw its postseason run come to an end in the Division V regional final. The Tigers surrendered three first-inning runs and fell to Columbus Academy, 3-2, finishing the season at 21-10.
In Division VI softball, Fort Recovery carried a 2-2 game into the seventh inning against Northmor before the Knights erupted for six runs to claim an 8-2 victory. The Indians wrap up the season with a 17-11 record.
