HAMLER (WLIO) — Marion Local High School saw its postseason run come to an end Thursday, falling 6-4 to Seneca East High School in the Division 6 regional semifinals.
The Flyers entered the fourth inning trailing 6-0 before mounting a comeback. Ethan Osterholt stole second base, and an errant throw into the outfield allowed Isaac Moeller to score the team's first run of the afternoon.
Marion Local capitalized on the momentum moments later when Derek Knapke delivered a check-swing single to left field, bringing home Osterholt and trimming the deficit to 6-2.
The Flyers continued to battle in the sixth inning after loading the bases. Knapke hit a hard ground ball that skipped past the shortstop and into the outfield, allowing Trey Brookhart and Osterholt to cross the plate and pull Marion Local within two runs.
Marion Local brought the game-tying run to the plate in the seventh inning with two outs, but Seneca East recorded the final out on a pop fly to seal the victory.
The Flyers finish the season with a 14-14 record and a Division 6 regional semifinal appearance.
