MERCER COUNTY, Ohio (WLIO) - Mercer County commissioners have declared a state of emergency to support poultry farmers dealing with the effects of the bird flu.

The resolution, passed to seek assistance from state and federal agencies, aims to help with the containment, eradication, and recovery efforts related to the disease.

Poultry farming is a key part of Mercer County’s economy, providing essential food products to the region, state, and nation.

The Mercer County Health District reports only one human case of bird flu has been documented so far.
