Representatives from Mercy Health-St. Rita's spoke to the club about their inpatient behavioral health facility that opened back in July. The new space allows them to take on more patients struggling with addiction and mental health and offer more outpatient programs. Hospital officials also want to change the way mental health is perceived.
They say it's an issue that impacts every family, and nobody should be afraid to admit they need help.
The new facility also offers unique therapy options through partnerships with ArtSpace/Lima and the Lima Symphony Orchestra.
"Many times there is not as much recognition given to mental health than it is in illness, like any other illness. A lot of times we don't hesitate to talk about if someone's had a heart attack or they have high cholesterol. But for whatever reason, we shy away from talking about how we're doing from an emotional and mental health standpoint," stated Dawn Mansfield, director of behavioral services at Mercy Health-St. Rita's.
