LIMA, OH (WLIO) - The Apollo Career Center's "Project Search" program held its info night at Mercy Health St. Rita’s.
Lima Sixth Ward councilman Derry Glenn will be hosting a town hall for adult mental health services following a recent community survey. Glenn and his team found that respondents were uncertain about how to go about searching for and receiving mental health treatment. The survey uncovered many Lima residents do not know where to go for services, are scared about being stigmatized, and are worried about how to pay for treatment and if their insurance will cover it.
The Lima Rotary Club learned about improvements to mental health treatment in the region. Representatives from Mercy Health-St. Rita's spoke to the club about their inpatient behavioral health facility that opened back in July. The new space allows them to take on more patients struggling with addiction and mental health and offer more outpatient programs. Hospital officials also want to change the way mental health is perceived.

Through its STABLE Account program, the Ohio Treasurer’s office is proud to help thousands of individuals thrive in the workforce while being able to save and invest their earnings. A STABLE account is a specialized savings and investment account for people living with disabilities that allows them to save and invest money without losing eligibility for certain means-tested benefits, such as Medicaid and Supplemental Security Income (SSI). STABLE accountholders can save up to $18,000 annually without losing federal assistance, and they can save an additional $14,580 each year if they’re employed. Earnings on STABLE accounts grow tax-free if they are spent on qualified expenses, which include housing, transportation, living expenses, healthcare, assistive technology, and more.
A long-time champion of services and quality of life for those with disabilities has hung up her hat. The Allen County Board of Developmental Disabilities threw a retirement party for Theresa Schnipke, who has been in the field for 34 years and served as the board superintendent for 8. She has overseen major milestones like the transition of Marimor Industries to a private entity, the creation of the Butterfly Memorial Garden, and the construction of the $1.5 million All Abilities Playground.
Ohio is encouraging businesses to create a program to support current employees or potential future employees that are recovering from mental health and substance use disorders.
The students in the Children's Developmental Center get some needed items before their school year starts. The Lima Memorial Auxiliary donated various items to the center through the annual supply drive. The center is located inside the health system and serves young kids with developmental disabilities. The annual supply drive is a way that the Lima Memorial associates can help out the program by providing needed snacks, school supplies, and paper products.
