Big traffic changes in downtown Lima as the anticipated roundabout in the square opens and more parking is being added near the courthouse.
Motorists will notice lane changes as they enter the intersection from the east and west on Market Street. Traffic seems to be flowing well since it opened last Thursday. City officials say there are a few more things to complete including overhead traffic flow signage to help guide motorists. They want the public to understand that it is important to remember you must yield when entering the roundabout.
"As you approach the roundabout, look to your left because that is where the circulating cars are going to come to and make sure you yield. And that is a big change for us here in downtown," explained Ian Kohli, City of Lima engineer.
Phase two of the Main Street corridor construction is underway in front of the courthouse and justice center. New pull-in parking is being created that will double the amount of street parking in that block and also includes a dedicated crosswalk for safety.
