A winter storm is looming, looking to disrupt travel for the Christmas holiday. Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) crews in District 1 and District 2, which includes 16 counties throughout northwest Ohio, are preparing by checking trucks and all equipment; and organizing full-time, auxiliary, and seasonal employees to prepare them to begin 12-hour shifts when needed.
The latest USDA crop report shows almost one-third of the soybeans and 15% of corn have been harvested across Ohio which is near the five-year average. The wet spring delayed some farmers from getting seed in the ground until June. We spoke to an area farmer who says his late-planted crops are not quite ready for harvest but is eager to get in that crop after not completing until January from last year's wet autumn.
The 718 building is coming down floor by floor. The medical center is looking toward the future and costs to maintain the 60-year-old building was increasing. The structure once held the St. Rita's School of Nursing with the last class graduating in 1971. Fifty-five classes went through the program living in the building. Many came back to a reception to see their old school one last time.
The use of helmets is the greatest defense against serious injury or death. The statistics are eye-catching in that nearly 75% of motorcycle fatalities in Ohio since 2017 resulted from no helmet use. However, it's not just about the experience and safety of the rider but the other motorists on the road. Last year, over half of motorcycle accidents were involved with another vehicle. The Ohio State Highway Patrol is reminding everyone to look twice as they are smaller and hard to see, which also makes it difficult to judge their speed.

Motorists will notice lane changes as they enter the intersection from the east and west on Market Street. Traffic seems to be flowing well since it opened last Thursday. City officials say there are a few more things to complete including overhead traffic flow signage to help guide motorists. They want the public to understand that it is important to remember you must yield when entering the roundabout.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol would like to remind you to check your vehicles as the weather becomes warmer outside. Meteorological spring is upon us, and troopers say it’s a good time to check your car to make sure it is ready for the road. According to the patrol from 2017 to 2021 vehicle defects were a contributing factor in over 10,200 crashes which resulted in 56 deaths in the state. Brake failures and tire blowouts were the most common causes in vehicle defect related crashes.
Troopers determined Patricia S. Billingsly, 48, of Columbia, Tennessee, was driving a 1999 Plymouth Voyager van when it went off the left side of the roadway. Ms. Billingsly swerved and lost control. The van struck a farm access drive and overturned, ejecting Ms. Billingsly. She succumbed to fatal injuries at the scene and was transported by Oakwood EMS to Paulding County Hospital.
