LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) – The dream of homeownership is becoming a reality for two Lima families, thanks to new affordable housing developments on Hazel Avenue.
Two modular homes were delivered and set in place Tuesday in the 1200 block of Hazel Avenue. The three-bedroom, two-bathroom houses arrived in halves on semi-trucks and were hoisted by crane and lowered onto their foundations, one section at a time.

Heather Magana, one of the new homeowners, was on site to witness the moment her home was placed — a moment she says her family has been waiting for.
“Very exciting. This is something we've been working on for about a year and a half, and getting everything together with it,” Magana said. “So to see it all come together, and see it actually happening is so exciting.”
Magana originally planned to purchase the rental home her family was living in, but when that deal fell through, she was already working with New Lima Housing for the Future and was offered the opportunity to purchase one of the new homes.
New Lima Housing is marking 25 years of providing affordable housing options in the city.
“In that time, we've actually developed in Lima — just in the Lima community — over $41 million of affordable housing through our organization's work,” said Scott Frenger, executive director of New Lima Housing for the Future. “That equates to 245 single-family homes, apartments, and senior rentals within the Lima community.”
Frenger said the organization hopes to build an additional 10 to 15 affordable homes in surrounding communities over the next two years.
