If you have got some yarn, you can help keep a veteran warm this year.
The Putnam County Veterans Service Commission is collecting new or used red, white, or blue yarn to send to the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections where inmates will make blankets, hats, gloves, and scarfs to keep vets warm throughout the year. Not only does it provide a service to our local vets but it also gives inmates a chance to do something good for our community.
"It gives inmates a sense of purpose and belonging in the community and they take such pride in their work that they're doing for us, and we're just happy to involve them because we want them to be productive citizens of the community and what a perfect way to allow them to do that than give back to veterans," says Veterans Services Officer Kristi Powell.
The Veterans Service Commission is collecting yarn at least through the end of this year at their offices.
