Senator Sherrod Brown recently spoke to the man that President Donald Trump has nominated for Veterans' Affairs Secretary about his stance on privatizing the V.A.
Trump nominated White House doctor Ronny Jackson for the position after allegedly ousting Dr. David Shulkin in part for standing in the way of privatizing Veterans' Affairs. Senator Brown, who sits on the Senate Veterans' Affairs Committee, met with Jackson to discuss what he plans to do to protect our veterans. Brown says Jackson committed to opposing efforts to privatize the V.A., agreeing that it only hurts the people it's supposed to help.
"When you privatize, particularly a health care function, people don't get the quality of care they got before," says Brown. "The workers, frankly, don't do as well as they were doing. The owners of the company, the newly privatized company, get richer and richer and I never want the Veterans' Administration to chose profits over the veterans and if they privatize that's exactly what's going to happen."
Dr. Jackson is set to go before the Senate V.A. Committee on April 25, 2018. Brown says he hopes Jackson makes the same commitment to oppose privatization at his hearing.
