LIMA, OH (WLIO) - The hot weather makes it hard to believe the Christmas season is just around the corner.
Sign-ups are underway right now for families who need assistance with clothing, toys, and more this Christmas with the Salvation Army Angel Tree application. The program helped provide gifts to more than sixteen hundred children and five hundred families right here in Allen County last year, and the need continues to grow. Families can apply on Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday hours will be from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., then 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. There is also an online application at https://saangeltree.org/ through Saturday, October 7th. Applicants must live in Lima or Allen County.
"Anyone can apply that is in need. Anybody that knows they need assistance this year, they can apply. It doesn't have to be anybody in particular," explained Charity Bender, captain of the Lima Salvation Army.
Applicants must have a photo ID, social security cards for everyone in the household, proof of address and income, and a list of expenses each month. There will be no late sign-ups allowed this year, so those in need must apply in person through Thursday, or online through Saturday.
