Students at South Science and Technology Magnet School filming mockumentary

Eighth-grade students at South Science and Technology Magnet School are filming a mockumentary on the late William Fowler. Fowler was an astrophysicist who won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1983 for his work that shows how all the natural elements in the Periodic Table are forged under extreme conditions across the course of a star’s lifetime.

Fowler grew up in the city of Lima and is an inspiration to future scientists from the area. The William Fowler mockumentary is a partnership between the Lima City Schools, the City of Lima, and Ohio State University at Lima. The film is expected to be completed by this winter, and a trailer being completed next month.

South Science and Technology Magnet School Science Teacher Jessica Spencer spoke about his accomplishments. She said, “I want the kids to get out of this that they’re born in Lima and there are lots of people who have come from Lima that have done great things, like William Fowler. He went to school at OSU at Lima, he’s won a Nobel Prize in Physics, and he’s won all kinds of other awards. There is a list that is a mile long, if you look him up, of all the things he did to better our understanding of how the universe works.”
