Tanker rollover causes tar spill

A tanker truck rolls over and spills tar into a ditch that separates U.S. 30 and I-75.

The accident happened just after 8 a.m. Monday morning in the eastbound lane of U.S. 30 just outside of Beaverdam. The driver of the truck was taken to the hospital. No word yet on the extent of his injuries. The crash caused the contents of the tanker to spill out into a nearby ditch, and crews have been called in to clean up the spill.

"The driver was carrying molten tar for tar chipping. There will be a cleanup contractor the operator will contact to help cleanup the issues," commented Director of Allen County EMA and Homeland Security, Tom Berger.

The crash is still under investigation, no word on how much of the tar spilled from the tanker and how long it will take to clean up.
