Some Lima City School students getting a sweet treat for doing well in the classroom.
It was an ice cream party for kids at Unity Elementary School Friday afternoon for students kindergarten through 4th grade that have excelled with the “i-Ready” software programs. “i-Ready” assists the kids in math and reading on a level that suits them and then guides them into a higher learning level. The students and educators like the progress it gives them.
Desmeion Daughtry is a 4th grader and enjoys the reading units, “On Reading I learned about the Bleeding Tooth Fungus and it’s like a mushroom that has red stuff growing out of it.”
Principal Tricia Winkler explains “I-Ready,” “It will group them according to the major standards that they are working on during that program and sees what students are accelerated in that standard and what students may be lower in that standard. And that helps with intervention grouping. And it helps teachers to understand what students need. Either a little more help or accelerate them. Maybe they already know the standards so we can move them on.”
i-Ready is used throughout the Lima City School District.
