The Lima Family YMCA is hosting its “No School Days” program on Monday, Jan. 19 for Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Monday, Feb. 16 for Presidents Day.
The Children’s Developmental Center of Lima celebrated its 67th annual Christmas party this evening.
“An excellent way for us to be able to bring the kids out and partner with the Y and create this safe space for them to be able to learn valuable life skills, and, more definitively, learn how to have some fun in the water in a safe and effective way,” Heggins said.
Jared Lehman, CEO of the Lima Family YMCA, said the program offers more than exercise.
“It provides more than just a gym component and a time for them to get some exercise. It's a valuable life skill. They're learning a skill that they can take with them well beyond Air Force and as they age into adulthood,” Lehman said.
Established in 1953 as the Lima and Allen County Clinic, the center has undergone several name changes before officially becoming the Lima Children’s Developmental Center in 1996. It remains the only private, non-profit early intervention and preschool program for special needs children in Allen County.
The Lima City Schools will hold One-Stop Preschool & Kindergarten Registration from 2 to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, at Liberty Arts Magnet School, 338 W. Kibby St.
Kindergartners at the Liberty Arts Magnet School got a visit from some four-legged friends today.
First through fourth-grade students from Shawnee Elmwood and Maplewood Schools will attend the off-site classes once a week to learn more about religion and the bible. Kindergarten students are expected to start attending in January. The new classrooms have been set up through a collaboration between Shawnee Alliance Church and LifeWise academy, and educators are excited to get the school year underway.
Fran DeWine read to kids at Wapakoneta Elementary School a book titled "Coat of Many Colors" that tells a story about Dolly Parton and her coat that was made for her when she was in school. The First Lady Spoke on the importance of Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, and how it has helped prepare kids to start their academic careers.
Counting, cutting, and tying shoes. All things a kindergarten student needs to know. These youngsters are excited about their first-day of school and are practicing the skills they will need to know. The library took the opportunity to host a "Yay for Kindergarten" story time with a variety of activities to get them ready.
The West Ohio CAP Early Learning Center will open its doors for full operations next month in August. The early learning center will house two early head start classrooms serving children from birth to 3 years of age and four head start classrooms serving children from 3 years of age to 5 years of age. Several years ago, WOCAP received funding to construct this new facility for Allen County families that meet the income eligibility requirement to better fulfill their mission.
