Since 2017, the Allen County 9/11 Memorial Foundation has raised roughly $60,000 to create an educational program to keep the memory of 9/11 alive.
The City of Lima will continue its electric aggregation program after negotiating a new rate.
It's only a few days away, and the Lima Rotary got a sneak peek of what will be happening this season at the 2024 Allen County Fair. Allen County Fair Manager Troy Elwer spoke to fellow Rotarians on Monday. The fair is officially set to begin Friday at 4 p.m. with the annual ribbon cutting. The first fair was in 1851 and has been entertaining people ever since. This year, Elwer encourages everyone to visit the tunnel to the Towers 9/11 Never Forget mobile exhibit that will be located on the north side of the fairgrounds near the Merchants Building.
The Allen County 9-11 Memorial takes a step closer to its goal with a donation from a Shawnee organization. The Shawnee Optimists made a donation of $5,500 to go towards the memorial. Ideally, the money will be used for a bench at the memorial that will be located next to the Shawnee Township Fire Department. The Optimists raised the money from fundraisers and personal donations. The foundation has raised $20,000 of the $400,000 goal.
A local memorial project getting a big boost with a donation from Shawnee Manor and HCF. The Allen County 9/11 Memorial fund receiving $4,413.91 from a recent designer purse bingo held by Shawnee Manor. A donation of this size is substantial to the project as it will help get it up and running. The memorial will be located in Shawnee Township next to the firehouse - not just as a memorial - but also as an educational tool for generations.
You've heard the saying laughter is the best medicine, well some New York firefighters believe laughter can save lives. This Saturday, three guys will be laughing it up at the Lima Veterans Civic Center. They are part of the "Laughter Saves Lives Foundation" that travels the country supporting events that promote the remembrance of 9/11. The money raised will be staying right here in Allen County for the construction of a new memorial that will be located in Shawnee Township.
Committee members for the planned 9/11 Memorial in Allen County received a donation from the Pentagon earlier this week. Committee members Jeff Rosebrock and Ken Ford made the trip to Washington, D.C. to pick up the donation, which was a limestone piece from the rubble of the Pentagon attack on September 11th, 2001.
