After a summer of uncertainty, a huge swarm of bookworms lined up and dashed through the aisles as the AAUW Book Fair kicked off Tuesday! Residents and travelers perused thousands of books ranging from children's books to large novels of non-fiction, romance, and many more genres. There were also games, DVDs, and even sheet music. The book sale is important to the community as money raised will go toward college scholarships for area girls, a tradition since 1957. This year, AAUW presented 14 scholarships of $1,500 each. The book fair is a Lima staple, and organizers are happy to bring it back another year especially after worrying if a location was available.

It has been a staple for avid readers in the region for years and is in jeopardy of not happening this year. The American Association of University Women (AAUW) has been looking high and low for a location for this year's book sale with no luck. The former Elder-Beerman building, where they have been for the past several years, is not an option. They are now looking for a large open space of 10,000 to 15,000 square feet to house the sale, which would be available from June through mid-September.

The book sale is a long running tradition for the organization and helps fund the scholarships they give out.  Members have been collecting books and other items, like puzzles and music, all summer to get ready for this weeklong sale.    The AAUW only excepts cash and checks only.
