A Wapakoneta Girl Scout just made a tremendous purchase for the Auglaize County Sheriff's Office that will benefit the entire county! Emma Hunley with Troop 2063 raised $50,000 and purchased a brand new pickup truck for the Auglaize County Sheriff's Office DARE program. She pursued this project to complete her Girl Scout Gold Award which is the highest award in Girl Scouts and equivalent to the Eagle Scout. When Emma heard the Auglaize County Sheriff's Office budget would be reduced due to decreases of tax revenue from the pandemic, she knew she had to help, and with her dream becoming a reality, Emma hopes she inspires other girls that they can do anything.

Over 70 seniors sign their certificates to either go to higher education, the military, or, this year, right into the workforce. Academic Signing Day has been a tradition for students since 2015, and the school hopes that they become examples for underclassmen to underscore the importance of looking toward their future. And these Spartans are ready to take that next step to continue their education journey.

It's been less than 24 hours since a tornado touched down in Mercer and Auglaize counties, where several homes, buildings, and farmland in both counties were damaged or destroyed. First responders rushed to the damaged areas last night and provided aid as well as checked homes for buildings for any injuries. Officials say there have been no deaths reported from the tornado. The Auglaize County EMA says New Bremen was one of the hardest-hit areas in Auglaize County. Wabash and Fort Recovery had a lot of damage in Mercer County.

In Paulding and Putnam Counties, a tornado reportedly touched down between Paulding and Oakwood with the storm progressing toward the Miller City area. According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, at least one house was damaged one mile west of Charloe, and a trained spotter reported soil being lifted into the air along State Route 613 near Oakwood. The Putnam County Sheriff's Office is currently reporting that there are no known injuries. The same storm responsible for producing the possible tornado in Paulding and Putnam Counties continued eastward into northern Hancock County where our own Meteorologist Conner Prince captured video of a possible tornado touching down in an open field north of McComb. According to an officer from the McComb Police Department, there are currently no known reports of damage in and around McComb in northwestern Hancock County.

The murder trial for a Lima man accused of killing a 14-year-old girl has been pushed back until the fall. 18-year-old Malik Dennis signed a time waiver today in Allen County Common Pleas Court, pushing his trial back to September 9, 2024. He has been charged with murder, felonious assault, firing a firearm into a house, and tampering with evidence.

Thanks to the U.S. Army, Apollo Career Center's culinary students were given two meals ready to eat, or MREs, and were told to re-use the ingredients and create appetizers, a main course, and a dessert for two people. They had six different MREs to choose from, like Italian sausage with peppers and onions and southwest-style beef, and then they put their skills to the test.

Lewis Bassett celebrated his birthday with family and staff at the Willow Ridge Nursing Home. He served in the United States Navy, doing shakedown cruises for aircraft carriers, and had a long career as a farmer. His family describes him as a hard-working man and says he's witnessed plenty of technological advancements over his career, like the transition from using horses for agriculture to the heavy machinery of today.
