The winner of this year’s competition will have their work featured on the 2026 Ohio Wetlands Habitat Stamp.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources says that bird flu may have been found in waterfowl in Auglaize and Mercer counties. They collected many dead wild birds to be tested for highly pathogenic avian flu, and they say that the virus is presumed to be found in eleven counties, including Auglaize and Mercer Counties. Canada geese, trumpeter swans, and mallards have been tested in the last few weeks.

Getting children excited about nature is the goal of Johnny Appleseed Metro Park District's Nature Pals program. It's a monthly program that brings children aged 3 to 5 together to learn about a different topic each time they meet, with today being winter birds. They learnt a variety of things, like backyard bird feeding, and even made something for their fine feathered friends.

Sibley’s presentation will take place Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at 7:30 p.m. in the Freed Center for the Performing Arts. The lecture will be free and open to the public.
