ALLEN COUNTY, OH (WLIO) - Getting children excited about nature is the goal of Johnny Appleseed Metropolitan Park District's Nature Pals program.
They learnt a variety of things, like backyard bird feeding, and even made something for their fine feathered friends.
It's a monthly program that brings children aged 3 to 5 together to learn about a different topic each time they meet, with today being winter birds. They learnt a variety of things, like backyard bird feeding, and even made something for their fine feathered friends.

"We made a bird feeder out of pine cones, and we'll hang that up in our yard. And what are we going to watch on the pine cones? What's going to eat the pinecone? The birds," commented Alysha Gray, who brings her son to the programs.
"There are birds everywhere, and they are all so different and beautiful. It's really fun to go outside and look for them and even the signs of birds. Like their footprints in the snow or their nests in the trees. It's very exciting," said Marie Walton, a naturalist at Johnny Appleseed Metropolitan Park District.
