Senators Rob Portman and Sherrod Brown have both been vocal about what they believe should be done when it comes to the border crisis. They are hoping to get a better idea of what things are like, starting with seeing the conditions for themselves and talking to border control agents. The two are hoping the experience will give them insight on how to handle the border issues they are most concerned about.

A humanitarian aid package is waiting for President Trump’s signature to get more funding and resources to the U.S. border with Mexico. Late Thursday, the U.S. House approved a Senate Bill for 4.6 billion dollars to provide aid to migrant refugees seeking asylum in the United States. The money will help east overcrowding and the conditions at holding facilities for migrants coming up from Central America.

Ohio's Republican senator is calling for a change in policy to help resolve the crisis at the United States' southern border. Senator Rob Portman (R-OH) says that a big reason this crisis is happening is because people from Central American countries are being told by traffickers that if they ask for asylum, they will be allowed to reside in the U.S. while waiting for their hearings. He says the average wait for those hearings is 40 days, and that some do not show up for those hearings once they come around.
