Welcome to the Heir Force Community School's "Builders Club" meeting, part of the Lima Kiwanis Club's youth programs. Twenty students participate in the "Builders Club," with five from each of the 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. Their core values are character building, leadership, inclusiveness, and caring—values students say are important for their future.
Students at Heir Force Community School made a difference in the community this morning. Heir Force students, along with the school's Builders Club, loaded up a truck with over 5,000 canned goods. The food was collected as part of Heir Force's annual food drive, and all donated items will fill the pantry at the neighborhood relief store. After the boxes were loaded up, we talked with one student about how the giving spirit can make such a huge impact in the local community.

A local childhood cancer survivor is continuing to spread awareness and hope in the community. Lauren Cunningham was diagnosed in 2014 and she's been doing all she can to help others affected by the disease. This time, she's recruited the Builders Club at South to help her make cards for friends diagnosed. Students involved met this morning in hopes that their cards can have a positive impact on children fighting cancer.
A group of Lima West Middle Schoolers got a taste of community involvement at New Life Church Saturday morning.
