Starting Tuesday, April 1, all permits, licensing applications, and building plan submissions can be completed electronically. The department is transitioning to SmartGov, an online permitting and licensing system. Officials say the new process will reduce the current 29-day turnaround to 14 days or less.

Construction at the Lima Municipal Building has created some changes for offices and entry points. To enter the building, you will need to go to the far door on the east side of the building. This is normally the back entrance, but for the next three months, it will be the main entrance. There will be someone there to help you get to the tax department and 3rd-floor offices.

We want this to work - that from both sides of the table Thursday morning as the city and county take another look at the building department contract. Allen County Commissioners and Lima Building Department officials tweaking the proposed contract. Modification to some language seems to be the fix to allow the contract to move forward, providing services for the new "Allen County Building Department".

Despite Delphos City Council's decision to vote down the countywide building department resolution Monday night, some members are still confident it will pass in the future. Resolution R219-3, a proposal made by Allen County Commissioners to partner with Delphos to create a countywide building department, was turned down due to the disapproval of one council member.
