The Ohio State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating a fatal fire north of Cairo. The fire happened Monday morning at 8309 Ottawa Road. They say that one male died in the fire, but they are not releasing the name or age of the victim, that information will have to come from the Allen County Coroner's Office.

Everyone walked away safely from a house fire in Monroe Township late Friday afternoon. First responders were called to the scene on East State Road near Cairo around 5:30 p.m. The owner was in the backyard doing yard work when the fire started. They were able to get the three dogs inside, out safely. No one else was inside, and there were no injuries as a result. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
Two adults and an infant were transported to the hospital after a two-car crash north of Cairo on Tuesday afternoon. The crash happened just after 3 p.m. at the intersection of Hook-Waltz Road and State Route 65. The Ohio State Highway Patrol says the driver of the grey Buick failed to stop before turning on to Hook-Waltz and ran into the front of the red Chevy. The vehicles sustained heavy front end damage. Both drivers and an infant that was riding in one of the cars was taken to St. Ritas and are expected to be okay. Traffic was backed up both ways on 65 until the crash was cleaned up.
Usually rural fires are more difficult to tackle because water has to be transported to the location but thanks to a water main that was installed in 2015 to bring Lima water to Cairo firefighters were able to extinguish the flames quickly.
