“But what the opportunity is,” said Kody Graham, head swim coach at the Lima YMCA, “is we get a chance to teach young swimmers, young people in our community, how to be safe around water. We also get a chance to interact with their parents, to share the language we use and the process we go through — how to safely enter and exit a body of water, and how to protect themselves in challenging situations.”

The Centers for Disease Control has reduced Ohio's flu activity status from very high to high as case numbers continue to drop. The Ohio Health Department says flu-related hospitalizations and outpatient visits have dropped by around 24% this past week. But with the Easter holiday this weekend, health officials are reminding people that if you don't feel well, stay home.

The CDC says RSV cases in the country have reached a two-year high. The virus causes symptoms similar to the common cold and can be severe in infants and older adults. The virus is most common from November to early spring, and several states are already running out of beds in children's hospitals. We spoke to a family medicine doctor at Mercy Health-St. Rita's who says they still have plenty of bed space but are concerned with the growing number of cases this early.

The ways monkeypox can be spread are through sexual contact, direct contact with the rash or scabs caused by monkey pox, or clothing that has had contact with the infected areas. The rash looks like blisters or pimples, there are flu-like symptoms that go along with having monkey pox. If someone has a new or unexplained rash or other symptoms they should avoid close contact, including sex until they can be evaluated by a health care provider. The CDC says there are 38 known cases in Ohio.
