January 2, 2025, press release from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources: COLUMBUS, Ohio — After the holidays, live-cut Christmas trees can be repurposed as habitat for various species of animals, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife. Before you discard your tree, remember that it can find life after the holidays for Ohio’s birds, fish, mammals, and more. 

As the holiday season comes to a close, people are likely getting ready to take down decorations around their homes, and with so many people getting live Christmas trees this year they may decide to recycle those trees for other uses once they're done with them.

The holidays are full of family fun and celebrations but while you enjoy the season, make sure you stay aware of fire hazards.

With Thanksgiving behind us, families are looking towards the next major holiday, and the first task on many Christmas lists is finding the perfect tree.
