According to the Ohio Revised Code, any dog over the age of 3 months is required to be tagged. You can purchase them at your county dog warden's office and the county's auditor's office. It's also the law that the tag be visible on the dog at all times. While it's the law to have a license, it is also peace of mind if your dog is lost.

You can't miss the revitalization that is going on in downtown Van Wert, but there is one historical piece that needs to be fixed at the center of it.  The over 100-year-old National Bank Clock that sits in front of the Municipal Court building needs repaired.  Main Street Van Wert estimates it is going to cost around $80,000 to fix the clock and another $20,000 to maintain it.  With the multi-million dollar projects going on to improve the buildings that surround it, it just make sense to get the historic time piece restored as well.

Daylight savings ends Sunday at 2 a.m. so we get another extra hour of sleep.  But along with turning our clocks back an hour, the Ohio State Fire Marshal wants us to take a minute to test and check our smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. When you check your devices, look for the manufacturing date.  Any alarms that were made in 2012 or earlier should be replaced to keep up with the 10 year timeline and double-check the batteries too.  The fire marshal's office says that having smoke alarms working and up to date cuts the risk of dying in a house fire in half.

At 2 a.m. Sunday, we will be going back to Standard Time and moving the clock back one hour. Sleep medicine professionals say that an extra hour of sleep this weekend will help most wake up rested but that change in "light" could affect some people's sleep patterns. Doctors say you should practice good sleep hygiene.
