ALLEN COUNTY, OH (WLIO) - The clock is ticking for dog owners to get their pets licensed.
According to the Ohio Revised Code, any dog over the age of 3 months is required to be tagged. You can purchase them at your county dog warden's office and the county's auditor's office. It's also the law that the tag be visible on the dog at all times. While it's the law to have a license, it is also peace of mind if your dog is lost.
"If it does happen to get loose and it has its tag on, it can be returned to you immediately. It doesn't even have to come to our facility. Anybody that finds it can look up the tag number and return the dog to you. So. It's very important plus it also funds our facility, our staffing, our vehicles, and care for the animals. So, it is very, very important to license your dog," explained Julie Shellhammer, Allen County Dog Warden.
Dog tags are available for 1-year, 3-year, or permanent license purchase at $22, $66, and $220 respectively. If purchased after January 31st, you can only buy the 1-year at a penalty cost of $44.
